Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

Emma and I took a little trip to Kentucky, thanks to a bus ride with our church's Prime Timers to Dayton, Ohio, my Dad, and Josh who all helped us make the journey. While we were there, we were able to visit the site of the EMHE as they are building a house in Louisville. My cousin received VIP tickets to have a free lunch there from her builder who was building the house. She invited us to come along. We rode a Hummer limo to the house and had a fabulous lunch. We were able to watch as they put some of the finishing touches on the house and landscape. It was amazing. It looked like blue ants swarming the building, there were so many workers doing different things at once. They literally installed the landscaping in the front and side yards and put in a sprinkler system in the short time we were there. Yes, they really do build these houses in 7 days!!

The Hughes family’s story is really interesting. One of the EMHE people on the news even said that this was one of the most inspirational families they had done a house for and that is saying a lot!! The 19-year old son was born without eyes and unable to straighten his arms and legs. His father works nights at UPS so that he can have time to take his son to band practice and to classes at the University of Louisville, where he studies Spanish. Patrick is a trumpeter in the marching band, and his father rolls him through the formations to where he needs to go.

In the picture above, my cousin, Kelly and I are posing with Didiayer Snyder. She is one of the new team designers for EMHE. Didiayer will be on the show starting in January.

So that was our big excitement for the month. Pretty cool, huh?
