Recuperating and Doctor Visit

We are all still trying to get our bodies back in sync with Michigan time.  It seems that Josh, Emma, and I have come down with some kind of weird viral illness that I am sure we contracted on the trans-Atlantic flight back home.  How could we not with people hacking and sneezing all over the plane?  Josh and Emma seemed to have a more severe version than I have.  Emma has been running a temperature all weekend from high to low-grade.  She also has a cough again and a runny nose. Josh just feels miserable all over with sore throat and a cough.  My throat is sore and I have a sinus headache, but I don’t feel too bad overall.  Katelyn seems to be doing just fine.  At least one of us is okay, eh?

Mei-mei had her first doctor visit this afternoon.  Everything looks normal as far as eyes, ears, heart, and lungs.  He said that she seemed to be interacting well with us and that she wasn’t really developmentally behind.  The doctor thinks that her legs will be fine, as most children have bowed legs when they are born.  We have to do the precursory urinalysis and stool analysis as well as the usual battery of blood work.  She did pretty good with Josh holding her to get her heart and lungs checked.  I kept feeding her goldfish to keep her quiet.  It all went downhill when the doctor had to look at her eyes and ears, then it was all I could do to hold her arms down.  I was getting kicked pretty good in the meantime!  The doctor pulled out some ear wax from her right ear.  I guess she had some buildup in there.  She did have a TB test today and we will go back on Wed. or Thurs. to have that checked.  The nurse didn’t get the serum in well enough on the first stick, so she had to do it all over again.  I was a little frustrated with her about that.   I am planning to take Emma down to the children’s lab downtown to get her blood tests later this week.  They have to draw quite a bit of blood, so I want someone who is used to doing little ones.  Hopefully they will get all they need with one stick.

On other news, Emma seems to be adjusting as well as could be expected here at home.  It hasn’t helped that she hasn’t felt well at all since Saturday.  We are still struggling with finding things that she likes to eat.  It was easy enough to find things in China as she loves a lot of Chinese food and rice noodles.  I fixed some Asian flavored Rice-a-Roni last night and she ate that up along with a cup of Mandarin oranges.  Today Josh fed her some turkey and she actually ate it, which is a first.  She still loves her yogurt and her finger-food snacks like Cheerios and  sweet potato puffs.  She loves to play with her toys and practices sitting at the little table and chairs that we have in the dining room.  She has continued to sleep well.  Last night she woke up and reached for me when I went to check on her in the middle of the night.  Of course, I couldn’t resist picking her up, so we went and laid down on the twin bed in her room.  She played little quiet games with me for a few minutes and then started to inch toward the edge of the bed.  I put her back in her bed, but she wasn’t happy with that.  I decided to get out the guardrail and put it on the twin bed. Then we laid down together on that bed, and she finally fell back to sleep.   I felt safer knowing she couldn’t roll off the bed.  Once she was asleep, I moved her back in her bed and she stayed asleep the rest of the night.  I took a 3 hour nap with her yesterday on the twin bed without the guardrail, but she wasn’t as squirmy as she was last night.

Tomorrow we have to be somewhere at 9:00 in the morning, so it will be our first time to get up and get ready early since being at home.  Hopefully that will all go well!

Sorry you are sick…I hope you all get well quickly! It sounds like Emma is adjusting really well. I think it is awesome that she wanted you in the middle of the night. I can’t wait to meet her in person!
