Alice Katherine

I have been meaning to blog about my new niece, Alice Katherine, born to my dear sister, Emily and her husband Michael. The amazing thing was that I had the privilege to be present when she took her first breath in this world. Alice was born at 9:51 am on January 29th. She was 8 lbs., 11 oz. and 21 inches long. This has been the year of the girls for our family as there have been 4 girls added to the family within a years time: Eliza, Emma, Sophia, and now Alice. Think of all the fun they are going to have growing up together! Poor Samuel and Titus will need some boys to even things out!

Josh’s other sister, Sarah was also able to be at the hospital for the exciting morning. It was such a wonderful night as we pulled an all-nighter, chatting and laughing long after we should have been letting poor Em sleep. The nurse would always ask what topic we were talking about when she came in to check throughout the night as it was always something different! It was so good to have that special time together just to re-connect and not have any busyness to pull us away, and then to culminate it all by experiencing a new life coming into the world. It was a very special lifetime experience for me! As the birth of my own daughters was quite different in that they were born so early via emergency c-section, I had never really experienced or seen what normally happens when a baby is born. It has happened since the beginning of time, and it was probably the first medical procedure that ever took place as Michael says! Yet, through all the medical advances, they still cannot tell you when that baby is going to make its appearance! There is still a mystery to it all.

Thank you Emily and Michael for letting me be there for such a special part of your lives. Now I am Aunt Amy to another sweet girl!
