Emma had a HUGE day yesterday! The first thing was that she went in for tubes in the morning. She did great and we are already seeing improvements in her speech. It is amazing! I think the hardest part of the whole thing was when she woke up at 2:30 am and I couldn’t give her anything to drink, and she was ticked off at me! I finally cheated and let her suck on an ice cube. Thankfully that was enough to pacify her. The dr. said she should feel better after the tubes than she even did the day before. I was able to get all suited up to take her to the surgical room and hold her while they gave her the anesthesia. The nurses were all admiring her jammies and slippers. The jammies were a gift from my cousin as her daughter couldn’t wear them. Thank you, Kelly! Her ears had a lot of fluid in them that came out when the dr. made the incision. She went to sleep pretty well, but when the nurse came to get us, we could hear her screaming right away. The nurse holding her asked us who was stronger! It is normal for them to be out of sorts from the anesthesia. She just wanted out of there. She kept pointing to the door and wasn’t satisfied until we were out in the car. She fussed a little while longer and then settled down with some animal crackers and juice.
The second big thing was getting her glasses. A couple of weeks ago, we found out that Emma needed glasses. She has astigmatism and is near-sighted. We had ordered them, but were not able to pick them up last week as we were out of town. The optometrist that we took her to specializes in fitting children, and he was able to fit us in for an appointment while we were down in Grand Rapids. He was just a few blocks away from where she had her tubes put in. I figured we could always cancel if she wasn’t feeling well. She had settled down and was doing fine, so we took her in, jammies and all, to get her glasses. I really didn’t want to make another trip to GR this week. She seems to be able to see better. She is a lot quicker to get around things if something is in her way on the floor. Before, she would have either stopped and had to slow down to get around or she would trip. She wasn’t too keen on keeping them on last night, but today is better. I took her to the store, and she was saying “HI!” to people that were pretty far away. She has never done that before. The only times today that she has wanted to take them off is when she was eating and when she was playing with her toy camera. Hopefully they will become second nature to her after awhile. The 2 cutest girls in the world! We like Emma's glasses, they're very cute. Miss Katelyn is adorable as always holding Sophia. Can't wait to see them both in person. Until then,

I am so glad everything went well. She will definitely feel better after her tubes! It will be exciting to see how she reacts to all the new sights and sounds around her over the next few weeks. I love all of the pictures! Love ya.
OK, I wondered if there was a possible way for Emma to be cuter, and you found it! She is just adorable in her glasses! I am glad her big day went so well and that she is already feeling better.
She's already doing SO well. . .with tubes to ear and glasses to see, she'll be making even greater strides! Enjoy a snow day together with Katelyn. :-)
