We are now officially paperchasing. We have turned in our formal application, and (drumroll, please) the first chunk of money to Adoption Associates, Inc. They hand us a huge packet of papers of instructions on how to obtain all the other paperwork that we will need for this process.
The day we turned in our application, we also sent off our I-600A to Examiner Teske at the USCIS (US Citizenship & Immigration Services) in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The I-600A is our application to be approved by the USCIS to adopt a baby from another country. That generated a letter to us with our appointment to be fingerprinted. Our very first piece of official adoption mail! So, next Wednesday, Josh and I will be fingerprinted. Our fingerprints will then be checked out by the FBI or something like that.
We now have passport photos for the 3 of us. (We are tentatively planning to take Katelyn with us to China.) So we will be applying for passports this week hopefully.
We will have the first of four interviews with our caseworker for our homestudy next Wednesday and our first meeting with our China consultant on Wednesday as well. It will be a busy day. I guess we are the lets-get-as-much-done-in-one-day-as-possible type people!!
So for now that is all the technical stuff.
It is hard to believe that we are actually getting started on this adventure.
More to come. . .
